(Game of Thrones) Dragon Skulls May Be Conscious

While it may be nothing, it’s interesting to note that both Eddard Stark and Tyrion Lannister claim in book one that they felt as if the eyes of the dragon skulls in the red palace were following them. That they were conscious. This is similar to how many characters like Catelyn believed that the weirwood trees were following them and were conscious. If we know the weirwood treed ended up being conscious there may lay the possibility that there’s some kind of magic in the dragonskulls also. After all, the dragons are believed to have reawoken the weaken magic of the world. There’s also the possibility that the Maesters plotted to destroy the dragons in order to end magic and bring about a world of reason (but that’s another story).

It would be interesting to know if Varys has some ties with magic. While he tells the story to Tyrion that he hates magic because he was castrated as part of a blood magic sacrifice and he heard a voice in the blue flames, it’s interesting how he keeps on mentioning throughout the book how he has a thousand eyes, or “his little birds.” while the children on his payroll may play a part on this, his reach on events does seem supernatural. We know birds are used a spies, and the weirdwood, and there’s magical candles around the world now being used also to see events far away. I wouldn’t root out the possibility that he’s playing with magic, since we know the series is filled with characters that are. Maybe not in the TV series since there’s is little time left in the last six chapters, but perhaps this revelation will be made in the next two books.
